- iPhones to xhost Linux apps - An interesting free download aims to let users of heterogeneous mobile devices effectively Xhost Linux applications and desktops, without installing anything. The "NX Web Player" from Italian network computing specialist NoMachine is due early next year, with the 4.0 release of its NX network computing suite.
- Tactical Linux computer muscles up - Eurotech subsidiary Parvus announced a more powerful version of its rugged tactical mission computer. The Parvus DuraCor 810-Duo runs Linux on a 1.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB of DDR2 RAM, and targets "high reliability" military and homeland defense applications, says the company.
- Virtualization technology targets multi-core ARM - VirtualLogix is touting its virtualization firmware's ability to support multicore ARM processors. The company is demonstrating VLX on quad-core ARM11 chips, and says the product is ready for Cortex-A9 or any other multicore ARM processors that use ARM's five-year-old MPCore interconnect technology.

- Ardour 2.7 released - Version 2.7 of Ardour, a multi-track audio editor, has been announced. "This release is dominated by dramatic improvements in OS X GUI performance and startup time, but it also contains a lot of significant bug fixes. However, somewhat to my surprise, Ardour also accumulated quite a lot of nice new features since 2.6.1 as you can see below."
- FTC Announces First in Series of Hearings on Evolving Intellectual Property Marketplace - The US Federal Trade Commission has announced the first of a possible series of public hearings to explore the evolving market for intellectual property (IP). The hearings will be held beginning on December 5, 2008, in Washington, DC. "The patent system has experienced significant change since the FTC released its first IP Report in October 2003, and more changes are under consideration. The courts and patentees are exploring the full implications of Supreme Court and Federal Circuit decisions on injunctive relief, patentability, and licensing issues. Congress has considered sweeping legislative patent reform, and new debates on the appropriate methods for calculating infringement damages have engaged the patent community. New business models for buying, selling and licensing patents have emerged and evolved since 2003. In addition, there is new learning regarding the operation of the patent system and its contribution to innovation and competition." (Thanks to David A. Wheeler)

- Setting Up Master-Master Replication On Four Nodes With MySQL 5 On Debian Etch - Howtoforge: "This tutorial explains how you can set up MySQL master-master replication on four MySQL nodes (running on Debian Etch). The difference to a two node master-master replication (which is explained here) is that if you have more than two nodes, the replication goes in a circle, i.e., with four nodes, the replication goes from node1 to node2, from node2 to node3, from node3 to node4, and from node4 to node1."

- Can't Print in Evince, GEdit, Claws-Mail - My Thoughts: "I got the Printer selection box but when I clicked on print an error message popped up, "Can't prompt for Authorization". I checked my printer settings and everything looked fine, so I tried again, another error message popped up: "Too many failed attempts".
